Pringles White Chocolate Peppermint

Pin It Now!
I had been searching high and low for the last flavor of the holiday Pringles, specifically the White Chocolate Peppermint flavor.  Having tasted the other flavors in this release (see post HERE), I was a little bummed that the holiday season was over and thought my hopes of trying this quirky flavor were forever lost.  Thanks to an awesome reader who chimed in that this flavor was at Big Lots in the Mission!  Thank you!  Also, you can't beat the $1 price.  The verdict?  Funky.  Exactly like what you think a white chocolate peppermint would taste like, right down to the minty aftertaste.

Sanders Potato Chip Chocolate Bar

Pin It Now!
On my way to get a sandwich for lunch at Schaub's in Palo Alto, a chocolate candy bar caught my eye.  I've had chocolate dipped potato chips before, but never in a chocolate bar.  I remember loving the salty taste and crunchy texture mixed with sweet chocolately goodness.  I sort of hoped that this would rekindle some of those great chocolate memories and tastes.

The bar itself is quite large.  I liked how it was sectioned off into breakable and bite size pieces.  The chocolate is rich and velvety, but there wasn't many potato chips pieces mixed it.  Not sure if the chocolate absorbed most of the salt in the mixture process, but there were no salty bits.  Once in a while I would bite into a chunk of potato chips, but that just reminded me of the crispy bits of a crunch bar.  Sad...

Cream

Pin It Now!
This winter has been unseasonably warm so its been almost refreshing to eat something cold.  Cream is located in the old Mrs Field's location on Telegraph in Berkeley.  You can mix and match your favorite cookie and ice cream then they smoosh it together to make you an ice cream sandwich.  You can even choose two different cookies or even multiple cookies for a layered ice cream sandwich!  Also, its only $2 each!
Sugar cookie with salted caramel ice cream.  One of the best things about these sandwiches is the cookies are WARM, but it makes it a little tricky to eat.  The ice cream melts pretty quickly so be warned and chomp it fast!  I was hoping for a salted caramel flavor similar to my favorite at Bi Rite, but this one lacked the saltiness that gives the flavor its bite.
Chocolate chip cookie with mint chocolate chip ice cream sandwich.  You can't go wrong with a classic.  This flavor combination is one of the most popular choices here.

Hershey's Kisses Candy Cane

Pin It Now!

Chocolate + candy cane.  I'm not a huge fan of candy canes.  Halfway through, I usually get tired of them.  It's like a mint overload.  I had some doubts buying these, but decided to be festive anyways.  These Christmas kisses had the perfect ratio of chocolate and mint.  One thing to note is that it's actually white chocolate, so it is a little sweeter than the normal kisses.  When you bite into one, tiny candy candy pieces explode minty flavors.   It's Christmas in your mouth.

snacks in Lima

Inka corn are giant corn nuts made from Peruvian corn called cancha.  Cancha is 2 to 3 times larger than regular corn.  Check out me eating cancha in Pisac (HERE)

Inka chips made with a mixed selection of yucca, sweet potato and plantains.  Yum! These were really delicious.
A new favorite fruit I discovered in the Amazon.  I loved it so much I went to the supermarket in Lima to pick up a couple to eat in the hotel room.  Granadilla is similar to the passionfruit.  Its delicious and fun to open too!  After cracking the fruit open, you slurp up the inside, seeds and all!  The taste is sweet, but mild.

El Brillante - Spain (Madrid)

Bocadillos de Calamares - calamari sandwich
Best known for their calamari sandwich.  Its one of the a huge selection of sandwiches.  The calamari is fried to order and stuffed into crusty bread.  No mayo or dressing complicates this dish.  I was already prepared that it was essentially fried calamari slapped in some toasted bread, but supposedly even due to the lack of condiments it would not be dry.  The bread was stale tasting and the sandwich DID taste dry.  The calamari did not taste fresh, although I did like how it was lightly battered.

Verdict:            Disappointing.  Sounds great, but in reality was not worth the search for it.
